Melvins Remixed
I’ll be the first to admit that I should have more Melvins albums in my collection. I had the opportunity catch the band in all its glory back in 1997 at the Austin Music Hall when they opened up for Tool. But somehow, I never got around to accumulating their albums. There’s a lot of them. The esteemed noise-brokers dropped their 20th album The Bride Screamed Murder this past June. “Electric Flower” from the record was recently remixed by a whole host of producers as a part of the Scion A/V Remix Series. I’ve been enjoying these intriguing concoctions this week and I figured so should you – check ‘em out via Preemtiv if you so wish.

Despite making a personal promise to lay low on Monday, I found myself on the Eastside for a side-by-side Fashion Week Extravaganza. The two parties were in celebration of Austin Fashion Week, or SXSWest 5th (the SXSW of the West 5th area!) While these specific festivities took place east of I-35, the theme remained centralized on sophisticated fashion and swagger.
My first stop was at photographer Cory Ryan (Eye Candy Photography) and professional cosmetologist Martha Lynn Barnes’ cocktail party. The event hosted a chockablock of what seemed to be an even amount of fashionistas and photographers, and featured a multitude of sweets, along with signature drinks from the ever-present Tito’s Vodka.

Today: William Glosup’s Firsts! This time, we examine what inspired William Glosup from The Bubbles. Catch the local band’s undeniable pop melodies at the The Mohawk this Thursday; pick up their stellar new record Daydreaming In Technicolor to boot.

1st favorite song: When I was growing up, my parents played a lot of Paul Simon in the house, and I really loved the song “Kodachrome.”

Firsts: Sh*te that happened
before other sh*te happened.
Today: George Irwin’s Firsts! This time, we examine what
inspired George Irwin from The Georgian
Company. Irwin formed the band in early 2008 from the ashes of his
previous project Just Guns. You may have
caught The Georgian Company’s stellar set at FTMOA’s
Residency Series show #3. If you missed that performance, fret not,
for you’ll get another chance to enjoy the band’s country-pop melodies
at the Maker’s Mark Red River On The Rocks shindig on
Saturday, August 28th at The Mohawk (Tickets).

1st favorite song: Before I started to explore music, I grew up
listening to a weird mix of Motown (The Supremes, The
Temptations), folk (Simon & Garfunkel, Gordon Lightfoot, Jim
Croce), country-rock (CSNY, the Eagles) and whatever
came on the oldies station.
