For some it’s a holiday, and for the rest it’s just another beautiful spring day, but
whatever the case may be for you, Transmission has your 4/20 all squared
away to be one hell of a rocking night! This Friday, one of our favorite local acts, Brownout will have everyone
within hearing range of The Mohawk shakin’ what they’ve got to some
irresistible Latin beats! Trust me—your hips won’t know what hit you when you end up
on the dance floor with this act in front of you… If you’re like me, you’ll probably look
like an idiot, but it will feel so, so right. These guys are coming in hot and fresh off a
killer west coast tour, so you can bet this homecoming show will be out of control! You
should also know that Brownout has got a new record called Oozy coming out on
April 24, so definitely make sure to keep an ear out for it!
Blackout this Friday if you please, but make sure to Brownout!
If you’re unfamiliar with Brownout, you’ll be sure to enjoy these funky tunes if you like
anything about Grupo Fantasma, and you’ll even be seeing some of the same faces. A
few songs I’d recommend to get your mojo working would be: “Olvidalo,” “Aguilas
& Cobras,” “The Sexican,” and “Slinky.” You can also check out the title track from
the new record in the YouTube video below! The band showcases some of the most
righteous horns players Austin has to offer, and you won’t be able to get enough of
what the rhythm sextion (oh hell yeah I’m leaving that Freudian slip in there) brings to
the table. The sounds are rife with intriguing percussive exploits, polyrhythms, and a
literally unstoppable bass—Mmmm! Doors open Friday at 8pm and it definitely wouldn’t
hurt to go ahead and snag your TICKETS online! The show will be outdoors and all ages, so we’ll look
forward to seeing you out there, rock and rollers!
Brooklyn based entertainer Reggie Watts is often billed as a musician/comedian, but it’s actually a bit more complex than that. A veteran of the viral video movement who gained experience on the college comedy circuit, he has also released five albums with the Nu-soul outfit Maktub, toured with Conan O’Brien, appeared on PBS’ ‘Electric Company’, and co-created a handful of experimental multi-media theater pieces, for starters.
As a solo performer, Watts’ spontaneous and one-of-a-kind compositions are a slow burn, building organically as he layers beats upon loops, one after the other, until finally unleashing his soulful voice. More of a comedic performer than a teller of jokes, Watts mixes literal humor, introspection, sarcasm, character acting and movement. He’s instantly recognizable by his puff-tastic hair and proclivity for suspenders and Cosby sweaters. What’s most enticing about Watts’ experimental performance style, though, is the way he thrives on the element of unknowing, inviting the audience along on a journey whose path is determined with each new step.
The 2006 recipient of the Andy Kaufman Comedy Award has played to sold-out crowds around the world at SXSW, Bonnaroo, Montreal Comedy Festival, Brian Eno's Luminous Festival in Sydney, and London’s Soho Theatre. On May 26, 2012 the unabashedly unique entertainer will grace the stage at one of Austin’s newest venues--Scottish Rite Theater at the old Scottish Rite Masonic Temple (18th & Lavaca). The elegant 19th century opera house has already hosted the talents of Thurston Moore and Of Montreal, and promises to be a great intimate environment for taking in the Reggie Watts experience.

Last Thursday, we broke the news of a very exclusive At The Drive-In show in Marfa. We had a feeling loyal fans would want more. Today, we’re thrilled to announce that the seminal post-hardcore outfit will perform their 1st show since reuniting this Monday night at Red Seven!
ATDI first came into prominence in the mid-90s with a handful of stellar releases; its third full-length Relationship of Command catapulted the band into a mainstream audience. When the band walked away in 2001, many were left confused and saddened. But all that changes this Monday, April 9th at Red Seven. Tickets are on sale now!

April 5th, 2012:
At The Drive-In played its first show at a high school fair in El Paso, Texas in 1994. Less than a decade later and on the heels of its most accomplished album Relationship of Command, the band walked away from it all at the height of its career. Some of the members found further suc¬cess with projects such as The Mars Volta and Sparta. However, loyal ATDI fans continued to pine for a chance to see their heroes together in action again.
It was no surprise that reports of a reunion were greeted with widespread cheers, some might even call it mania. Since that announcement earlier this year, rumors of a Texas date have circulated far and wide. Today, it is our great pleasure to announce that the band will perform in Marfa, TX on April 12th at The Capri. Tickets are on sale now!
