From The Mind Of Adi #40: Richard Henry’s Firsts

Firsts: Sh*te that happened before other sh*te happened.

Today:  Richard Henry’s Firsts! This time, we examine what inspired local DJ Richard Henry. You can catch him spinning the beats at a number of upcoming events in town, including the 2 Live Crew show on June 25th at The Mohawk.

  • 1st favorite song: “Blueberry Hill” by Fats Domino. I used to sit and listen to the radio when I was little and always try to pick up shortwave radio stations that catered to songs of that time.

  • 1st favorite musician or band: Elvis Costello without a doubt.

  • 1st vinyl purchased: My first record purchased would have been the Pulp Fiction soundtrack -- purchased at a closing record shop in San Antonio when I was little. I was big into collecting film scores and still am.

  • 1st album recorded on a cassette tape: Have not recorded an album on a cassette tape yet but made plenty of mixtapes produced using 2 cassette players to create samples that turned into songs. Some enjoyable and some were not.

  • 1st cassette tape purchased: First cassette tape purchased would have been The Doors.

  • 1st concert attended: The Jesus and Mary Chain.

  • 1st CD purchased: Had a very late start with purchasing CDs. I'm pretty sure it was Low by David Bowie.

  • 1st album downloaded: Version by Mark Ronson

  • 1st personal band: Long ago when I was starting to play guitar had a make shift punk rock band that never really left farther than the garage.

  • 1st live performance: First time I ever played was at Red Fez many years ago as a guest spot for a DJ set. First band performance was some time after high school.
