Fun Fun Fun Fest Preview - Frightened Rabbit

Frightened Rabbit
Performing Sunday at 2:45 on Stage One.

Frightened Rabbit’s The Midnight Organ Fight (Fat Cat Records) is probably one of my favorite albums to come out this year. From start to finish, every track on this full-length is absolutely brilliant; soulful folk wrapped in richly layered production, songs that start with nothing and build to foot-stomping, barn-burning anthems with brutally honest lyrics every drunken and horny romantic can relate to.

Frightened Rabbit share a lot in common with other Glasgow-based acts like Mercury Prize-winning Franz Ferdinand and Snow Patrol; you can even take it back to Teenage Fanclub to find the roots of what Frightened Rabbit do. The band began initially as a solo outlet for singer/songwriter Scott Hutchinson and has since grown to a bass-less four-piece. In a post-Dashboard Confessional world where to wear ones heart brazenly on one’s tattooed sleeve is to be expected, Hutchinson’s lyrics are all-but devoid of poetry, daringly simple in Kerouac-like fashion, delivered in a slurred and heavily-accented drone. No bullshit, no jargon, just the lonely, beaten-down honesty of a man looking for action.

Fun Fun Fun Fest marks the band's last U.S. tour stop before heading back overseas, where they will support Death Cab for Cutie for two weeks. Don’t miss the opportunity to catch their mid-afternoon set. I promise you it will be nothing short of spectacular.
