Shows & Shots: Gayos in Tejas @ Red 7 this Friday [Preview]

Editor’s Note: Shows & Shots is Ashley Cass’ new column on the TE Network; you may remember her work from her previous Two Girls in Town blog on this site. Today, she previews Chaos in TejasGayos in Tejas shindig at Red 7 on June 3rd.

June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month, which ultimately means... non-stop dance party. Kick off the festivus on Friday, June 3 with QueerBomb which commences at East Side Drive-In at 7 p.m., then rally up the troops and bring yourselves down to Red 7 for Gayos in Tejas .

QueerBomb

Gracing the stage are New Orleans Bounce Music Allstars Big Freedia w/ DJ Rusty Lazer, Katey Red, the first transgender MC to rise to stardom, and Brooklyn based neo-folk group Cult of Youth... who completely contrast the rest of the line-up, but embrace variance, right? In all honesty, they’re actually really good although I’d imagine they’re the warm up to the raucous dance party to follow.

Katey Red and Big Freedia

Contrived in the early nineties and recently evading obscurity, Bounce music is a heavy rhythm, urban hip-hop style native to New Orleans accompanied by call-and-respond chants, a repetitive beat, and suggestive lyrics. If you haven’t been to a Big Freediashow or didn’t catch the “Queen Diva” at Fun Fun Fun Fest last year, buy...a....ticket....NOW. Unlike anything you’ve seen or experienced before, the high energy show features a slew of Team Shake dancers whose expertise in booty poppin’ and risque gyrating are absolute. Audience participation is encouraged, so get ready to “shake for the money, bounce to the floor” and get an eye full of “Azz Everywhere.”

Here’s an *almost* suitable for work preview of the boys at Red 7 putting it in “overdrive, overdrive, overdrive.”
