Misprint 6th Annual Beard & Moustache Competition

It's finally
here. The biggest, baddest, funnest and rowdiest facial hair contest in
the world is back. 2012 marks six years of Misprint Beard and Moustache
madness and thanks to the meteoric growth of exposure and excitement in
the fast-paced sport of Competitive Bearding, this year promises to be
the largest event yet. There’s an entire weekend of facial hair parties
and events featuring some of America's true beard and moustache royalty.
The contest takes place on Saturday, February 25 at The Mohawk (912 Red
River), with doors opening at 8 p.m.
Austin's hirsute champions will be joined by aspiring beardsmen from
around the world seeking fame and glory in the following categories:
· Gnarliest Beard
· Sweetest 'Stache
· Freestyle Facial Hair
· Ladies!
· Fiercest Chops
· Best Groomed
· Six Month Sprint
For the sixth straight year, the competition will be hosted by
Austin-based and nationally-known stand-up comedian Matt Bearden. Mr.
Bearden is currently a co-host of the top rated "Dudley and Bob Morning
Show" on KLBJ-FM Austin. Additional musical entertainment will be
provided by DJ Andy the Mouth and a live performance by Austin's premier
electro-percussion beardo party-metal band, Marriage.
On hand as judges will be Bryan Nelson (Austin Facial Hair
Club/IFC), Houshang Ghaharie (Anarchy Championship Wrestling/Mohawk),
Laurie Gallardo (KUT Austin) and Allen Demling (Austin Facial Hair
Club/IFC/future city councilman) along with a surprise celebrity guest
judge.
Prizes and sponsorship have been provided by the Mohawk, Birds
Barbershop, Alamo Drafthouse, Transmission Entertainment, Bijou Studio,
Chrome, Austin Books and Comics, Monofonus Press and many more.
Also
present will be the Austin Facial Hair Club, stars of IFC's hit reality
television show "Whisker Wars" who are raising awareness for their trip
to Germany in May 2012 to represent Texas in the European Beard and
Moustache Championships.
As one of the premier events in the American competitive bearding
circuit, we are expecting a large number of competitors from outside of
Texas, There will be a full weekend program of events, including a Beard
Parade and a Ladies' Beard Pageant/Welcome Party sponsored by the
Austin Facial Hair Club and their lady boosters on Friday, February 24

The cover for the contest is $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online at http://transmission.frontgatetickets.com/ or at the Mohawk box office. The Mohawk, which has hosted the competition since 2009, has erected a new, $100,000 solid steel viewing platform specifically to support the weight of hundreds of the world's gnarliest beards. The platform, prominently visible from Red River Street, will be torn down immediately following the competition.
