For this month's featured tune & video, we've focused on two artists based out of the thriving musical village known as Athens, Georgia (please see map below for directions, thank you): KUROMA and ATLAS SOUND.

THE TUNE - "Paris" by Kuroma.
You heard it here first, folks. Well, maybe not first...by our estimates, there are maybe a few hundred people in the world who've already heard this month's tune at a few listening parties in Brooklyn and Athens, GA. But for the most part, this stuff is brand new and, for now, way under the radar.
This month's tune is by Kuroma, the solo project of a bloke from Athens named Hank Sullivant. Whether you're consciously aware of it or not, you're probably well-acquainted with Hank's work. He's a co-founder and the original bassist of The Whigs (left the band in late 2006). He was a touring musician with MGMT until March 2008. And while on tour with MGMT across the U.S. and Western Europe over many months, Hank wrote the 10 tracks for Paris, the debut LP by Kuroma.
Looks like Hank's been kinda busy over the past few years, no?
We like this record. It grows on you in a pop-but-not-pop kind of way, much like the songs of MGMT by the time you're into the second or third track of Paris, Hank's substantial influence on MGMT's sound becomes pretty evident)...but in a more subtle fashion that demands closer attention. Paris - currently only available (1) on the merch table at Kuroma's shows, (2) on the shelves in the record stores of Athens, and (3) here - is a record that will definitely ride the wave of the Athens scene that we've seen (and continue to see) recently, but it will also likely carve out its own unique & distinct space within that scene. The songs on this record represent a new sound but are also tastefully tied to styles from the past. Paris is a record that takes a refreshingly new take on 70s psychedelia, and we think it's worth a listen. Cheggit.
THE VIDEO – “My Car” by Atlas Sound (video by unknown superfan).
This month we proffer unto you, the discerning and demanding Transmission community, a video that's off the beaten path. This is a video for "My Car" by another Athens-based group, Atlas Sound ...but the video wasn't made by Atlas Sound (that we know of). Rather, it appears to have been painstakingly crafted by this YouTuber, who we assume is Uber-Fan Number Uno of the band. Check out the meticulous attention to detail on this thing. We like. We like very much. Bravo, mystery video artist. Bravo.

A fan video created for "My Car" by Atlas Sound. This video was posted on YouTube by a user named "PissChaps." Nice work, whoever you are.
