- 1st favorite musician or band: The B-52's. Fred Schneider JUST came in to Prototype (May 18th)...yes, I dorked out. Wild Planet is the soundtrack to my early childhood.

Firsts: Sh*te that happened before other sh*te happened.
Today: JG Wilkes’ Firsts! This time, we examine what inspired Jonnie Wilkes (a.k.a. JG Wilkes), one half of the Scottish duo that goes by the moniker Optimo Espacio. Optimo Espacio is actually a club night, started by Wilkes and Keith McIvor (a.k.a. DJ Twitch) in 1997 at The Sub Club in Glasgow, Scotland. The two have built quite a reputation for the
event, hosting many relevant touring acts such as LCD Soundsystem and
Franz Ferdinand while also nurturing a vibrant local scene.
Unsurprisingly, Wilkes and McIvor are the resident DJs at their
shindigs but they do hit the road from time to time -- this Thursday, Learning Secrets is bringing Optimo Espacio to Austin -- RSVP here for $3 admission into the inevitable dance party at Beauty Bar.
- 1st favorite song: “My Aunt Jane” (Irish Traditional), sung by my mother.
- 1st favorite musician or band: The Bay City Rollers (sadly the tartan bell-bottom trousers got banned at school).

Tomorrow at The Mohawk: RITON
Riton (pronounced "reeton") is one of the most talented and multi-faceted DJs to emerge from the UK of late. He's remixed everyone from Hercules & Love Affair (their next single) to The Cure, to Holy Fuck and er...Justin Timberlake as well. He's released original material on Get Physical, Modular, and Astralwerks, not to mention his new project with Eine Kleine Nacht Music with members of SOUL WAX. Riton is a DJ who avoids the limelight but can hold his own and out-do many of his contemporaries in the techno and electro world. He comes to Austin for the first time to play a special DJ set for us at the new Learning Secrets all-ages party at The Mohawk. Learning Secrets' Ian Orth and Abominatron open, while Annie Ray sets up her Alter-Ego themed photo booth.
